5/19/2011 - Kentw wrote: 88 pointsEasy drinking and fairly nice merlot. Dark and full bodied at this stage. Lots of currant and plum with strong vegetal notes. Some oak/vanilla present. No cherry or blackberry notes here. Quite chewy with balanced tannins. Nice mid palate but has a slight sour and somewhat bitter finsih that lasts a while. If not for the bitter finish would rate it 90. |

5/18/2010 - winetennis wrote: 89 pointsI am noticing a lighter red color in this Merlot than more traditional Bordeaux or Napa Cabs. Black pepper and dark fruit on a moderate nose. Mild and balanced tannins emerge on the mid-palate and offer a good counterpoise to a dark fruit blended finish. Seems lighter than previous outings. 2nd night: still very good, not as light, interestingly, than last night. Paired very well with seasoned Mahi Mahi. ALC 14.7% |

9/2/2009 - mgl wrote: 87 pointsHave to agree with most comments - good value for $13. Hard to find a drinkable merlot at this price. A bit tuned off by the brownish tinge to the color, but did not affect the flavorl. Medium body, redcurrant ; not much up front but builds upvery nice midrange and finish. Bit more like a French Bordeaux wth more fruit. Don't know how much longer good to hold since detected a bit of oxidation; might be descending. |

Medium body with good intensity of fruit, dry, kind of tart finish. Fairly good acidity. Black currant comes to mind, and brandied cherries with cocoa powder. |

7/23/2009 - VanVino wrote: 90 pointsAromas of plum, oak, and vanilla. Mild dark fruit upfront transforming to a slight cinnamon on the mid-palate. Finished with spice and oak. Considering its high alcohol level, it is well balanced. I could barely detect the heat. |

6/26/2009 - Rich S wrote: 88 pointsPopped and poured. Dark purple color. Spicy nose with good amounts of ripe dark red fruits. Alcohol is also detectable on both the nose and the palate. This is a big merlot and the 14.7% abv really shows itself but luckily there is enough fruit and tannins to keep things in balance. This wine actually needs some air to open up and will probably integrate a bit more with some additional bottle age. Would rebuy. |

4/14/2009 - TCKM wrote: 88 pointsMore interesting than my last bottle, but also more disjointed. Nose is somewhat quiet and restrained. Smooth entry with some green vegetables, cherry, spice, vanillin and then black tea on the very end of the finish. Loses points for bitter tannic heat at the back of the palate. Still decent QPR. |

4/8/2009 - kietkopelli wrote: 89 pointsI like this wine as a value play although it doesn't have overwhelming flavors. On the nose it's rich and fruity If I didn't know better I would think it's a new world Syrah. Lots of blueberries, currant, peppers and a hint of dill. The mid pallet is when the CA Merlot really comes into the spotlight. Cherries, chocolate and vanilla comes through and a bit too oaky. Brings back found memories of the late 80's Merlots. I would have missed the tea notes but thanks to llyrsdad I picked it up. Finishes a bit flat for my taste but all and all very serviceable for $12. |

4/4/2009 - wirelesswine wrote: 87 pointsPopped and Vinturi'd....nice cab flavors, cassis, cherry, little bit of oak. But what happened to the dusty, gritty tannins I enjoyed on my last bottle? Seems much softer this time around. Solid length on the finish, still a great value and will enjoy tasting my remaining bottles over time. |

3/29/2009 - Coupe 60 wrote: 88 pointsPopped and poured, and had with a sausage and broccoli rabe sandwich, and by itself. Most prominent flavors I pick up in the first glass are sour cherries, a hint of leather. Nice fruit but not over the top. As the bottle is open, I start to get a caramel taste fdrom the oak...Very nicely integrated. This has a little backbone to it. Medium acidity, Medium tannins...Drank very easily. Mrs. Coupe liked it as well |
